Over the next two weeks I will be answering your questions regarding the Insights Discovery assessment that we use in Younique.  Please submit your questions to kelly@lifeyounique.com

Q. The Fiery Red tagline, “Be Brief, Be Bright, Be Gone” feels mean to me. Can you help me understand it?

Yes! Before I speak to the red energy tagline specifically, let me set up the purpose of the taglines in general.  Insights Discovery creates a common language for our preferences, describing how we like to interact with people and where we get energy for the work we share.  Each color energy has a tagline that is imprinted on the respective color blocks for red, blue, green and yellow.  The tagline serves as a reminder to others how the individual holding the blocks prefers to interact with you.  For example, someone leading with red energy would like you to “Be Brief. Be Bright. Be Gone.”

Now to the specific question, and feeling, that the tagline for red energy feels mean.  After all, it ends with “Be Gone!”  Instead of receiving this as communicating a dislike of you or a lack of appreciation for what you bring to the table, honor that individuals who lead with red value action.  Above all, people who have a high preference for red energy want to stay moving and get on with the action. Red energy leaders feel empowered when they are freed to move forward, solve the problem, and deliver the results you value.

Consider the tagline as an invitation to enter the problem, share perspective, and then get going together.

Most of us have more than one color energy that we value highly, so also consider how the tagline interacts with the second color energy preference.  If the second block is blue, then it may be an invitation to present the analysis and rationale for action.  If the second block is yellow, then it may involve an invitation to join the effort and tackle the problem together.

The tagline is not intended to be mean, rather a clear reminder that supporting our friends and colleagues that lead with red value your insight and perspective most while still in motion.
