90-Day Goal: Day 16: Be Specific

Pastor and author Max Lucado reminds us in his book, The Christmas Candle, “You weren’t an accident. You weren’t mass produced. You aren’t an assembly-line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the earth by the Master Craftsman.”

You are specifically gifted, which means your 90-Day Goal is something no one else can do. What makes this goal something you are willing to prioritize, focus on, and dedicate yourself to? A vague, general goal doesn’t have the power to motivate you to give the time and energy required to be successful.

Tip 16: Be Specific.

Specific may also be thought of as simple, sensible and significant.  A few questions to ask when drafting your specific goal include:

What – Write clearly exactly “what” you want to accomplish.
Why – Capture the reason behind achieving a goal. Why is this important to you?
Who – Specify exactly who will be involved in the process of achieving the goal.
Where – If there’s a location to achieve the goal, do mention it. This may not always apply.
Which – Which resources are required in the process of goal attainment?

Use these questions today to reevaluate your goal or to re-inspire you as you tackle it today. If you are revising because you started out with something a little too general for success, then celebrate that win in the process and embrace a newly articulated goal for the week ahead.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
