90-Day Goal: Day 56: One At A Time

The brain cannot multitask.

This is a very disappointing reality to me. I read and reread the research on this fact trying to find a loophole, a small sliver of light that can suggest this isn’t true.

Like most people with an iPhone we feel empowered to do lots of things at once and keep everything in motion all the time. Sadly, we are really only doing one thing at a time. We are deceiving ourselves by thinking we are doing multiple. In reality, the rider or rational self can do one thing at a time.

When we are thinking about behavior change, we are most successful when we pick one change at a time. This is why at Younique we are sold out to the power of a singular 90-Day Goal. This is your one thing and it works because you are managing one change at a time with singular focus.

Tip 56: One At A Time

Clear direction is singular direction.

The elephant or emotional side of ourselves can’t muster enough energy for multiple changes. Life is hard enough and there are many demands for our time and attention. There is no way to clear the path, to optimize our environment, for all the changes we want to make at the same time.

It is true that your 90-Day Goal could create a competency or habit that will flow into your life going forward. When we develop a habit it works for us because we don’t need to focus on it anymore.

Habits allow us to do things without thinking about them directly so the rider can focus on the clear direction being set by the current behavior you are changing. If your 90-Day Goal develops into a habit, then you can enjoy the benefit of that behavior change as you turn to your next 90 Day Goal to focus on something new.

Let the Rider focus. Allow the elephant to feel the motivation for one change at a time. Give yourself the gift of clearing the path for this goal and really go for it.

This is your moment! Crush your 90-Day Goal with that singular, all-in focus. One at a time is the best recipe for success of a lifetime.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
