90-Day Goal: Day 62: Remember Me

This week we are leaning into the promises of God.

When we are doing new things or hard things, especially things that are both new and hard, then we need to be reminded that our identity is not in what we do but in whose we are as God’s beloved children.

We are not a sum of our accomplishments, even when the tasks and activities we do are good and fruitful. We are not loved because of what we produce but because we are his children. He is with us and wants us to remember his presence with us in this 90-Day Goal all the way to the end.

We are leaning into the promises of God and this week to remind and reinforce our belovedness. Today we are bringing forward a “remember command” from Jesus himself in Luke 19:22: “Do this in remembrance of me.”

This, of course, is spoken by Jesus when he is with his disciples and they celebrate the Passover meal together. Only Jesus is aware of the coming trial and crucifixion. He is bringing the disciples forward from the covenant forged by God with the Jews through the law to the fulfillment of the law in Jesus himself. Jesus says, “Do this in remembrance of me… And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”

Tip 62: “Remember Me.”

Jesus prepares to renew the covenant through his sacrifice. He invites the disciples to participate in this ongoing redemptive work through the command to “Remember Me.” As a child I remember thinking this was a little funny. Who could forget Jesus? He healed people, turned a few fish and loaves of bread into a feast for 5,000, he walked on water. Who could forget Jesus, especially his disciples who had a front row seat to his ministry?

It turns out that we all too quickly forget. We can get going on a 90-Day Goal and forget to share each step with him, good or bad. We can forget that our work and what we can produce comes as a gift from God for our enjoyment and his glory.

Instead, we can all too easily take the credit. We can forget that this is a group effort, one that is forged in the covenant between God and a people that includes us and our family and our church family. Remember me, Jesus commands.

Remember that your goal is part of a bigger story and that Jesus wants to share it with you.

Remember me is an invitation to offer your work to the grand restoration project Jesus is leading through the covenant he began long ago. You are beloved and invited to the feast. May this encourage and fuel you as you crush your 90-Day Goal.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
