90-Day Goal: Day 27: Will Your Willpower

Habits are powerful, which means they can help us and they can harm us.

It takes energy to form a habit and willpower to break a bad habit. Maybe your 90-Day Goal requires you to build a new habit or maybe you need to break a habit in order to reach your dreams. Regardless, willpower is required.

Willpower is possible and can be built to help you. Some people give up on pursuing their goals with the excuse that they don’t have enough willpower to succeed. This is unhelpful because it assumes that willpower is something you either have or don’t have—that willpower is static and can’t be developed or grown.

Research on willpower does suggest that willpower is like a muscle! We all have willpower and what we believe about it makes all the difference.

Tip 27: Will your willpower.

In other words, believing in yourself is a critical component of reaching your 90-Day Goal. We all get tired and lack of energy can definitely test our willpower. There is no question that new activities and the effort required to build new habits can make us tired. That is human.

But the small successes of accomplishing a daily routine, enjoying the reward, reaching the end of week four on track can also build us up and give us energy to keep going.

You can do it. Willpower is not the secret to success. Willpower is necessary to move past obstacles and it can be cultivated through practice, consistency, and right sizing your goal.

Don’t try to run a marathon if you can’t run one mile! The same is true in your daily life. Set your goals and design your day to get the little wins that build your willpower and help you crush your 90-Day Goal.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
