We all dream about making more money. While we practice the spiritual discipline of gratitude, having more money and resources is something we all think about for our lives.
There is nothing wrong with increasing what is available for us to use in fulfilling our life calling, which includes the ability to be generous. But we often only think about making more money as a way to add value in our lives, but there is more than one way to add.
Tip 31: Add to Add
Adding the lens of progress and order to “Make Money” and “Advance Vision” are two helpful ways to think about the ways you can increase value, particularly in your workplace.
Let’s start with making money. You can help look at ways to increase revenue. At work this might be finding ways to increase sales or increase market share. This is looking at money through a progress lens. If we look at making money through an order lens then we might instead reduce expenses, which also increases the bottom line.
Beyond making money, we can also increase value by advancing vision. Vision is a way to talk about the mission of the organization where we work and the culture that creates a place for shared effort and stated goals.
Looking at advancing vision through order, we can help to strengthen the culture. Examples may include being a healthy team member that seeks harmony and celebrating people for the effort and contribution they make. When looked at through a progress orientation, we begin to think about ways to innovate mission.
In this view, we might help to design a new product or service the company can offer. Or you can think about a new market or people group that the company might reach in the future.
Add ways to bring value beyond making more money. You can contribute to the shared efforts of making money and advancing vision each and every day. Add tools to your tool belt to add value in your life. Use these tips to crush your 90-Day Goal and make the most of your life.
