As we continue to focus on our 90 Day Goal and give it attention and priority in our days, we continue to explore using The Spirituality of the Psalms to be the definition of success. Sometimes we complete a 90-Day Goal in only 30 days and sometimes we don’t cross the finish line for 180 days.
Success in Life is Defined By What We Learn and How We Love
Life can throw us curve balls and we have to adjust. But if success in life is defined not whether or not we reach a goal but what we learned and how we loved along the way, then we develop into the disciples and people God created us to be.
The scorecard we are using for knowing if we are living on mission with our lives is Psalms Spirituality, which you can read more about in Younique by Will Mancini. The scorecard includes three measures based on the three types of Psalms described by Walter Brueggmann: Thriving, Reviving, Surviving.
Tip 39: Brave Surviving.
We all know what it feels like to be barely making it. We lose our job and wonder how we are going to put food on the table. The doctor delivers us devastating news in which life is never going to be the same. The rejection letter arrives in the mail. We answer the phone in the middle of the night to heartbreaking news. We have all experienced the pain of rejection.
Perhaps you set a 90-Day Goal in the midst of a surviving season in order to do something, anything, that will help drive out the darkness. You may be fighting for every ounce of energy that your 90-Day Goal requires.
The good news of the gospel is that Jesus himself was rejected so we might be expected. When Jesus was on the cross he himself quoted Psalm 22, “Why have you forsaken me?” he cries.
In addition to Psalm 22, Psalms 54, 70 and 141 portray the rawness of crying out to the Lord.
When you are feeling abandoned and unseen, the Lord is with you. Take it all to him, cry out and wail.
Psalm 23 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” Remember that when surviving we are to keep walking. It is hard to be sure. But the word does not say to lie down, pitch a tent, or dwell in the darkest valley. Rather, keep walking.
Take the little steps that move you forward toward your 90-Day Goal. And he will meet you there.
