When I had open-heart surgery to repair a congenital birth defect I was 42 years old with two elementary aged children. I also had a great husband, family and community that showed up to help us move through the recovery season. Gratefully, the surgery was successful and I feel great today (see my notes about my Peloton from week one).
I remember the day when I first felt like I was not going to be sick forever. I drove my kids to school in the morning and the bones in my chest didn’t hurt. The recommendation is to not drive or lift anything heavier than a milk jug for the first six weeks to allow the ribs and sternum to heal.
So when I could do the routine task of driving the kids to school in the morning without concern for my body, I rejoiced! I still had a long way to go to full recovery, but that was a significant moment of reviving.
Using Your Personal 90-Day Goal to Move From Surviving to Reviving
Reviving is when we are moving out of a season of surviving in which we feel the healing, restoration, and new life. Your 90-Day Goal may be one that is helping you to move out of a surviving space by taking intentional steps forward. You may not feel fully yourself or out of the woods, but you see light ahead.
Tip 38: Notice and Welcome Reviving.
Psalms that speak to renewing our relationship with God and give us a model for sharing life with God in reviving include 50, 78, 81, 89, and 132. We reconnect and renew with the Lord and he provides for our steps.
At Younique we highlight that we can experience different postures with God in different areas of our lives at the same time. For example, our health may be reviving, our relationships thriving and our work surviving all on the same day!
Lean Into the Tension Between Different Areas of Your Personal Life
We don’t try to reconcile this tension, rather we lean into it. Allow God to meet you where you are and to be honest about how different areas of your life can be experiencing different realities.
As you walk out your 90-Day Goal, welcome the reviving. Be patient and steady, acknowledging it takes time to heal and experience restoration. But live with the assurance that God is with you and providing for each step. He is present and ready to provide for you each day.
Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
