In the parable of the sower, Jesus teaches us how to receive the word of God so it flourishes in our lives. “Good soil” represents people who both hear the word of God and live it out in their lives through their words and actions. We all aspire to be good soil and our 90 Day Goal is directly or indirectly helping us to cultivate this discipleship posture.
Jesus warns, however, of thorny soil. The thorns represent “the cares of this world, the desire for riches” (Mark 9:14). There is no question that we have a lot going on in our lives, including worries and cares that weigh us down. Jesus brings him home by saying that they will “choke” us if we aren’t careful.
Tip 44: Remember the Why
How do we stay motivated and keep going when the cares of the world begin to wrap themselves around us? We remember the reason we set the goal in the first place. We remember the “why” this goal is important to us and how it will move us closer to being “good soil” who hears and obeys the word of God.
Dream with God again! There is a preferred future, a better version of yourself, a newness available to you that begins with this 90-Day Goal. Remember the moment in which you prayed and invited God to help you name this goal. What is he calling you to or out of that got you on this path?
Motivation is fueled by that dream. “Why” you are committing the time and energy to this goal is the power that, when remembered and renewed, will keep you going and over the finish line.
Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
