Welcome back to 90-Day Goal Together as we visit the commands and calls from God to remember. While the tips and tricks from psychology and social science are super valuable, even more so is leaning into the power of the relationship we have with the Lord who is our most valuable 90-Day Goal Together partner.
When we are doing something hard or new or hefty, we need to lean into the promises of God to remind us that our worth and identity comes from whose we are and not what we do.
And this is never more true than we are successful, when life feels good, and all is churning along as we hoped. If you are feeling confident and satisfied from the progress you are making on your 90-Day Goal then this word from the Lord is especially for you.
Tip 59: Remember the Source.
Whatever goodness there is in your life remember that it comes from the source of all, the Lord your God. Give him praise and thanks. When things are going well we can be tempted to believe we did on our own.
“Look at me! I deserve it. Look at all I created and accomplished.”
It is precisely at this moment that we receive this command from scripture: Remember the Lord your God (Deuteronomy 8:7-18).
This is a sermon from Moses anticipating what can happen when the going gets good. Moses calls for Israel to remember their dependence upon God and reminds them that their faithfulness is the best way to foster that relationship.
He calls upon the people’s memory of their experience in the wilderness, especially the harshness of those conditions when compared to the relatively lush surroundings of the promised land.
He knows that when people settle in, get comfortable and enjoy the fruitfulness of the promised land their acknowledgement of all God’s provisions will fade. When things are going well we are tempted to believe that we did it on our own.
This is a universal experience that is as real and powerful today as it was in Moses’ day.
Remember your Lord your God. Remember that it is the Lord our God that gives us the power to generate wealth, be productive, and crush our 90-Day Goal. Everything we do to produce comes from the power of God in us.
If you are crushing it—then give him thanks. If you are struggling—then give him praise. You have goodness in your life and it’s all a gift from God.
Remember the Lord your God may come easily to you right now or it may be a matter of discipline and will. Either way, we desire to partner with you as you make your way through week nine and one day closer to crushing your 90-Day Goal.
