90-Day Goal: Day 72: Be Super Suit Ready

My absolutely favorite Pixar film is The Incredibles. And my favorite character is Edna Mode. As we crush your 90-Day Goal Together, here in week eleven I am sharing with you my favorite things. These are ideas, quotes and snippets of wisdom that help us understand and leverage the power of gospel-centered life design as we work on our singular 90-Day Goal.

As you know The Incredibles is the story of superheroes who were forced into retirement by a society that was not willing or able to appreciate their individual talents and abilities. You may be feeling the same way.

Can’t anyone see how hard I work, how much I try, what value I bring, what I’m willing to do to make a difference?  We have all felt this way which is why the movie is so relatable.

When we are on the sidelines for a time there is always the danger of getting comfortable with the status quo. We can get lazy, believe the lies we tell ourselves about not being good enough, and stop dreaming with God. In the Younique life design process we are all about combating life lies and reigniting the practice of dreaming with God.

Which is exactly what happens when a threat by the name of Syndrome brings the Incredibles back into action after a long time of denying their abilities and squashing their dreams. They get called up into action so Mr. Incredible is processing this with Edna Mode, the genius behind the super suit.

Tip 72: Be Super Suit Ready.

Bob, aka Mr. Incredible, says to Edna, “You know I am retired from hero work.” To which Edna responds, “As am I, Robert,  yet here we are.” This line from the movie simultaneously makes me laugh and calls me to attention.

The reality is there is no such thing as retirement in the Bible. There is never a time in which we are “safe” from God calling us into action. We might tell ourselves that we made our contribution, did our duty, and now have the freedom to spend a chapter of our lives off the grid and excused from duty.

But that is not what the Bible says is the Way. Follower of the Way is how early Christians referred to themselves as followers of Jesus, years before the term Christian was standard. Followers of the Way prepared for anything and like Edna Mode were always super suit ready. Similar to my favorite thing from yesterday, President Eisenhower’s observation that planning is indispensable, we can’t always plan or foresee what is coming but we can be ready.

Sometimes we will find ourselves being called into action. Like Edna Mode in the movie says,  “yet here we are.”

If your 90-Day Goal has taken a turn or faced an unforeseen obstacle then welcome to the ranks of superheroes. The key is to be super suit ready and step into the moment ready to face the challenge.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
