What are you streaming right now? I can binge on Netflix favorites with the best of you. There are a couple of shows that we are watching with our teenagers such as Mandalorian and The Great British Baking Show. Maybe you stream podcasts, music playlists or YouTube channels. We have multiple streams pouring into our lives as we move through this digital world. One stream just isn’t enough.
Richard Foster in his classic book, Streams of Living Water, talks about the different streams of spiritual traditions that come together in the life of the church. By naming and understanding each one we can appreciate how each one gives us a different emphasis, view and understanding of the Christian life.
He calls them “streams,” using the image of streams flowing into a grand river of unity with Christ. Each one represents a core characteristic of Jesus that has special focus. While we may have a preference for one or the other, together they help us to live balanced spiritual lives.
Tip 78: Stream Living Water.
This week as we approach the finish line of our 90-Day Goal, we will visit each one of these rich spiritual traditions and discover new ways to connect with Jesus as we lean into the wisdom of each stream. Today as you look back over last week and look ahead to the finish line of your 90-Day Goal, I invite you to consider the streams.
What are you taking in and how can you make room to stream living water? What can be adjusted in your NOW rhythms, what have you learned along the way in your 90-Day Goal that creates new space to commune with God?
We all need energy and fuel to go the distance. We all desire closeness and intimacy with God as we prepare to celebrate our accomplishment. In what ways can opening yourself to the streams of God’s living water help you today crush your 90-Day Goal?
