It’s Your Call!
You decide which day of the week you want to create as the beginning of the week and the day you will name as Sabbath. For me I begin with Sunday and end on Saturday. Day 2 for me is Monday. Sunday is when I reflect on the past week (more coming in future posts about reflection) and plan my upcoming week. Saturday is my rest day.
But you can pick any day of the week as your “day 1.” I have a friend who is an ER doctor and she works weekend shifts regularly. Her rest days are midweek when she is not on call. You may also have shift work, be in the ministry, or work in hospitality that is busy on the weekends. Design your week and decide which day of the week is your first.
Now that you have a 90-Day Goal and rhythms in place to stay fueled, we are on to the big tip for Day 2.
Tip #2: Eat That Frog!
Attack your 90-Day Goal first thing in the morning. Prioritize that activity so that nothing will crowd it out. Don’t allow small tasks or the activities you enjoy to do to distract you from the commitment you made to your 90-Day Goal.
This phrase comes from Mark Twain who wrote,
“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning.
And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”
Mark Twain knows that we tend to avoid tasks that are big, energy draining, or boring. So if your 90-Day Goal requires some discipline and gearing up for, then hit it first thing in the morning and don’t let anything else get in the way. Then you can celebrate your accomplishment and move on to your more enjoyable tasks and activities.
I highly recommend the book, Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. He provides great tips on how to make sure your big thing stays the big thing in your life so you can get more done and reach your goals.
